Thornwell Home for Children
We are excited about our ministry with the Thornwell Home for Children!
If you’ve not heard about the Thornwell Home for Children, you should know that they have been welcoming haven for children and youth whose lives have been shattered by abuse, neglect, displacement, abandonment, or tragedy since 1875. Their programs and services help to restore hope and wholeness by creating a nurturing, growth-oriented, Christian environment where every child can begin to heal. You can read more about their work at www.thornwell.org.
There is something for everyone to do related to our participation with and support of Thornwell. For example, anyone can collect Boxtops for Education and Campbell’s Soup labels, and bring them to the church. Our quilting group makes one-of-a-kind pillowcases, and every Thornwell child receives one for his/her birthday. We also pray in worship for a different Thornwell cottage each Sunday. Plus, will host two cottages here in Ft. Mill for a day of recreation in August 2011.
We also are collecting school supplies and other needed items for Thornwell. These include:
- Large book bags (for high school students)
- Wal-mart gift cards (for birthdays and incentives)
- CVS gift cards (for birthdays and incentives)
- Barnes and Noble gift cards (for reading rewards)
- Laundry Products (liquid detergent/dryer sheets)
- Snack Items (fruit cups, Pop Tarts, cereal, granola bars, etc)
- Personal Care products (shampoo/deodorant/etc)
- Note cards and postage stamps (for thank you letters)
- Laundry Baskets
- Pillows
